'Born to Be Wild' (1968) is the song that introduced the phrase 'heavy metal' into the lyrics of a major rock single, and 'Magic Carpet Ride,' 'The Pusher' kept them in the late-60s / early-70s rock canon. The Easy Rider soundtrack made them culturally permanent. Foundational hard-rock / proto-metal figures.
