Wesleyan, CT. Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser. 'Oracular Spectacular' (2007) gave indie pop 'Time to Pretend,' 'Kids,' 'Electric Feel.' Three songs, an entire decade of imitators (and a generation of synth-pop revivalism). 'Congratulations' (2010) was the deliberate art-pop pivot; 'MGMT' was weirder; 'Little Dark Age' (2018) was a TikTok-revival comeback. The catalog has been more interesting and stranger than the singles let on; one of the more genuinely curious pop bands of their decade.
