Harlem's New Jack Swing originator. 'Make It Last Forever' (1987) was the album that, alongside Teddy Riley's productions for Guy and Bobby Brown, basically invented NJS as a commercial format. 'I Want Her,' 'I'll Give All My Love to You,' 'Twisted' (1996, the late-career #1) — that pleading vibrato shaped 90s R&B more than people credit. The 'Sweat Hotel' satellite-radio show has been on the air since 2008. Foundational figure.
